Walking the Bypass: Notes on Place from the Side of the Road has won the 2026 Dean’s Prize for Accessible Scholarly Writing from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Regina (my employer). The Associate Dean who looks after the research aspect of the faculty, Tom McIntosh, stated that the book “demonstrates how works of creative non-fiction aimed at a broad audience can illuminate complex ideas in accessible but vivid language in ways that much traditional academic writing cannot.” That is high praise, and I am grateful for this recognition from my colleagues.
